Obituary of Joseph Fern
We are heartbroken to announce the passing of our father Joseph (Joe) Fern. Joe passed away peacefully at Providence Manor on May 6, 2022, at the age of 85. He had a long battle with congestive heart failure and Alzheimer’s.
Joseph came to Canada from Barcelona Spain in his early twenties to make a new life for himself. Joe was determined to be a success. He changed his last name from Folguera to its English translation, Fern. Joe met the love of his life, Jennifer Wright in Toronto, after a short courtship they had a long loving marriage until Jenny’s passing in 2018. Joe is lovingly remembered by his 2 sons, Jason and Jeff, their wives Tanya (Jason) and Tracy (Jeff) and their grandchildren Jacob and Jessica (Jason and Tanya) and Madison, Hannah, Hayden, Landon, Christian (Jeff and Tracy). He is survived by his brothers Lluis Folguera and Francesc Folguera.
Joe was a very bright and industrious man. He studied engineering and became a civil engineer while supporting his family. After moving to Kingston in the early 1970’s, Joe opened his own business as a builder and contractor. He developed several substantial commercial and residential projects in Kingston.
Joe loved sailing and cycling with Jenny. They spent many happy hours on their sailboat with friends. They were also avid cyclists often doing 100km trips well into their 70s. He loved music and played with a senior’s band. Joe was also a golfing enthusiast. He spent many happy days chipping balls around the local courses. Most of all he loved his Jenny and his family.
We would like to thank the staff at Providence Manor for their loving care of Joe through these challenging COVID times.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to the Living Waters Anglican Fellowship, 726 Chatsworth Place, Kingston, ON K7P 2E2
