Despite the efforts of the professional paramedics who responded to our needs, David passed away at Kingston Health Sciences Centre on Saturday November 27, 2021. He has left his wife Terry (Goff) with many life-long adventures and cherished memories.
Predeceased by parents Lester and Clara McLaren and his sister, Lorraine Helsby. Forever missed by mother-in-law Dorothy Goff (Bob predeceased 2010), brother-in-law Rob Goff (Sue). Affectionately known as “Super Dave” to nieces and nephews, Kevin and Ruth-Ann Goff, Ryan and Tara Goff, Amy and Fred Hill, Danielle and Mike Kwong. Cherished Great-Uncle to Owen, Zoey, Hudson, Austin, Charlotte, Grace, Henry, and James.
David was an elementary school teacher in the Kingston area where he maintained lasting friendships with colleagues and students, who to this day refer to him as “Mr. McLaren”. He was very talented in fine art drawing and participated in the Student Art Gallery at Hotel Dieu Hospital. Most noted was his precise penmanship, as well as his unique signature.
Anyone who knew David was aware of his love of sports, especially his Toronto “blue” teams: Blue Jays, Argonauts, Marlies, and his beloved Toronto Maple Leafs, which proves he was an eternal optimist! One could tell which team was playing in a series by the matching attire David was wearing from head to toe. Nicholas (who David took to many games) and the entire Osanic family will especially miss him.
David lived for his early morning pick up hockey games at the Invista Centre; despite the nick name “Pylon” as referred to by his teammates. His dedication continued in the hopes of a call up to the NHL. He said he was the best dressed guy on the team, presenting at each game with vintage equipment held together with duct tape and tie-downs.
Uncle David’s popularity increased with the donation of an old, tired K-Car with stick shift for two budding demolition drivers who took several tours through the woods before finding first gear. David spent many summers at the cottage on Lower Beverley Lake where he tackled countless projects like a PhD dissertation, highlighting the instructions, sorting the accessories, and finishing each completed project with a “Come look, Terr!”
Our family has lost a fun-filled guy who brought lots of laughter and wonderful memories to our family and for that, we are truly grateful. We miss you, David.
