I was sad to read of Jim's passing. I had the privilege of working along side of Jim for 10 years when we were both working out of the Board Office at the Limestone District School Board office. Jim was both a friend and mentor as we worked together, along with others such as Jim Coles, to provide opportunities for growth for local educators. Jim's background was elementary education and mine was secondary. In the process of working together Jim taught me so much regarding the "foundations" of good education - lessons which have guided my thinking over the years. We shared common rural farming roots and I have wonderful memories of cutting wood with Jim in the bush at the back of the farm at Mallorytown.
I am sure that Jim's quiet influence, working as a teacher, principal and curriculum leader for elementary education in Limestone and beyond, generated a significant ripple effect with teachers and students alike.
Jim, it was a pleasure and honour to work with you. I know that many educators in our community will now look back with fondness and reflect on the quiet support and guidance you provided to all of us - be it in the schools you taught in, the Resource Centre at Kingscourt Public School, The Tennant Centre at Rideau Public School or a myriad of other locations.
Rest in Peace Jim. You touched many people in a profoundly positive way throughout your journey.
Sincerely,
Dickson Mansfield
