Obituary of Barbara MacNaughton
MacNAUGHTON, Barbara J.
Over the last few years, we gradually lost the essence of Barb and she quietly passed away February 20, at the age of 87.
Barb was married to her late husband Don for 62 years, and was a devoted mother to her sons, Don MacNaughton (Jane MacNaughton) and the late Bruce MacNaughton (Karen MacNaughton). Dear grandmother and great-grandmother to Kaitlin Corrigan (Pat Corrigan, and their daughters Maia and Elena), Iain MacNaughton, and Jonathan MacNaughton, who left us far too soon. Fondly remembered by her niece and nephews, and cousins.
Barb was born in 1931 at Long Lake, Ontario to Margery and Orvis Smith. She grew up in Kingston. She graduated from KGH nursing in 1954, and was an avid member of the KGH nursing alumni. She worked along side her husband Don in his medical practice for many years. Her caring spirit was felt by many people through her work there, and as a welcoming member of Chalmers Church choir. Throughout her life, she loved her dogs, from her childhood pets, and then many beagles named Angus. She never tired of managing dog hair and loved her long walks. She always seemed to have limitless energy for her many interests including creating wonderful family meals, entertaining friends, music, gardening and painting. She made amazing pies and was a very accomplished watercolourist.
We are very thankful for all the gentle care she received over the last three years, as her ability to live on her own was changing. From St. Lawrence Place, to Briargate to Providence Manor, we have been blessed by the care she received from many thoughtful, and devoted people. Cremation was held at James Reid Funeral Home and private interment will be in Cataraqui Cemetery. A memorial service to be held at CHALMERS UNITED CHURCH (212 Barrie St), on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 2:00 pm. A donation in Barb’s memory to the Alzheimer Society of KFL&A, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, or an act of kindness in Barb’s name would be appreciated by the family.
