March 16th, 1933 - August 30th, 2018
Stanley Albert Collins, FCA, passed away peacefully at Kingston General Hospital, on Thursday August 30, 2018 in his 85th year. Son of Cecil and Alice (Fairbairn) Collins, brother of Dean Collins and Dianne Abercrombie. Loving husband of 59 years of Ellen (Jackson) Collins, proud father of Mark, Greg, John and Blair, and proud father-in-law of Sandra, Karen and Lesley. Beloved grandfather of Emily, Alissa, Alexis, Ashley, Tevin, Jerica, and Kalin. Stanley was a well known and highly respected member of the business community in Kingston. He was the owner operator of Collins Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, Cadillac, from 1970 to 1980. A senior partner in Collins Blay LLP from 1980 to 1998 when he retired. He was a consultant in 1999 for Kingston Regional Laundry and other local businesses. He was actively involved with many boards and organizations. He was a past chair of the Board of Directors for Kingston General Hospital, KGH Foundation, past chair of the Board of Governors of St. Lawrence College, board member of Kingston Chamber of Commerce, Canadian Automotive Association (CAA Ontario), Kingston Seniors Association, Cancer Society, Routes to Learning, Kingston Downtown Business Association, Community Care Access Centre, YMCA Capital Campaign, and Kingston Rotary Club. He was recognized for many of his accomplishments including Fellowship Ontario Chartered Accountants, Rotary Paul Harris award, and Kingston Business Hall of Fame. A fierce squash player in his earlier years, an avid hockey player and skier into his seventies, and a lover of the the outdoors he could often be found walking trails, birdwatching, or enjoying the lake and creatures of the home property, with family and friends. Visitation will be at the James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Boulevard on Monday September 3, 2018 from 2-4pm and 6-8pm. A service will be held at Glenburnie United Church at 1pm on Tuesday Suptember 4, 2018. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to U.H.K.F (Kingston Health Sciences Centre - KGH)
