Obituary of Mary Ellen Jefferies

JEFFERIES, Mary Ellen (nee Gravelle)

March 30, 1928 - August 25, 2018.

Graduate of St. Joseph’s School of Nursing

Passed away peacefully with family by her side at KGH on Saturday August 25, 2018. Predeceased by her loving husband Charles, parents Mary Ellen and Patrick Albert Gravelle and sister Florine Rochefort (Vincent) and nephew James Rochefort. Dear mother of Patricia Romero (Ricardo), Joe (Brenda) and Mike (Debbie). Cherished grandmother of Rachel and Rhiannon Romero, Katie, Luke, Jacob, Meghan and Melissa Jefferies and Matthew Desjarlais. Fondly remembered by nephews Larry Rochefort (Pat), David Rochefort (Debby). Visitation will be held on August 29 at 3:00 to 5:00 pm and 7pm to 9 pm at the James Reid Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at ST. JOSEPH’S ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH (392 Palace Road) on Thursday August 30 at 11 am with Monsignor Joseph Lynch officiating. Rite of Committal with prayers to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Mary Ellen grew up in Glenburnie and later Kingston.  As a dedicated nurse she worked first at Hotel Dieu hospital and later Alcan as an Industrial nurse.  She was committed to her family and community and was a proud Kingstonian.   She enjoyed playing the piano, band concerts plus walks along Kingston’s waterfront. Family was a source of pride and she was a dedicated mother to her family and relatives to the end. She enjoyed playing cards and was an avid hockey and football fan - as long as one of her children or grandchildren were playing. Special thanks to the compassionate staff of The Waterford and the Kidd 6 doctors, nurses and staff of KGH. As expressions of sympathy, memorial contributions in Mary Ellen’s name can be made to the Ontario Lung Association.
