Obituary of Kimberly Ann Fortune
FORTUNE, Kimberly Ann, RN
Peacefully and so unexpectedly, in her sleep on Saturday, August 11, 2018, age 57 years. Kim (nee Moffatt), was born in Glace Bay, Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia on October 28, 1960. Kim's passion for helping people in need led to an education in nursing which she completed at Algonquin College in Pembroke, ON. Following her graduation, she accepted a position at St. Mary's of the Lake Hospital (now Providence Care Hospital), in Kingston, where she remained a loyal and dedicated member of the nursing staff until her passing. Left to mourn are her husband and best friend of 30 years, Mike Fortune, and her cherished son, James Fortune, both of Kingston. Dear daughter of Mollie (nee Barron) Moffatt of Dominion, NS and the late Rolfe Moffatt Sr. Lovingly remembered by her brother Rolfe Moffatt, sisters Katherine Moffatt, Lydia Moffatt, Bernadette Vaters (Basil), Alice Gouthro, Rose Cameron (Gary Pope), Rita Thompson (Robert), Ralphina Boutilier (Arthur), Molly Boutilier and Jane Rizzo, all of Dominion, NS. Predeceased by brothers-in-law Ronnie and Wayne Cameron. She is remembered by Mike's family as well. Daughter-in-law of the late James and Mary Fortune and sister-in-law to John Fortune (Muriel), Charles Fortune (Betty) and Linda Fortune. Predeceased by brothers-in-law George and James (late Shirley) Fortune, all of Cape Breton. Also remembered by numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends will be received at JAMES REID FUNERAL HOME, 1900 John Counter Boulevard, Kingston, ON, on Tuesday, August 21 from 2:00 pm until 3:50 pm, followed by a funeral service in the chapel at 4:00 pm, with Kim's neighbour and friend, Rev. Dr. Nadene Grieve-Deslippe officiating. A visitation will also be held in the evening from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. Cremation at James Reid Crematorium will take place following the visitation. At a later date, Kim's family will take her "home" to Cape Breton where a memorial service will be arranged and interment at Forest Haven Cemetery in Sydney, NS. As expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation in Kim's memory.
