Obituary of Betty Evans Lachapelle

Betty Evans Lachapelle (nee Rowlinson)

1921-2018

Keen intellect, rapier wit, fashionista, seamstress, puzzle and crossword maven, teddy bear creator, teacher, singer, artist and musician. These are a few words to describe Betty. She had joie de vivre and lived her life with enthusiasm and optimism. Betty loved people and her comments usually brought gales of laughter to any situation. With an adventurous spirit Betty left her job as a lab technician and travelled from Cambridge, England to Montreal, Quebec to marry a French-Canadian Air Force Communications Officer, whom she had only met 6 times during the war! It was a love match and Edmond David Lachapelle (previously deceased), and Betty were happily married for 54 years. After leaving England her career varied from running a co-operative nursery school to an office administrator in the Avionics division at Canadian Marconi Company for the last 25 years before retiring. Betty and Ed moved to Kingston from Ste. Rose, Laval to enjoy their retirement and always took advantage of all the cultural events that the city had to offer. Betty was an avid volunteer and worked at the reception desk at the Marine Museum of the Great Lakes for over 10 years. After moving to the Waterford Retirement Residence at age 89, she sat on the Resident’s Council and the Food Committee, because they needed her expertise in minute taking, financial aspects and running meetings properly (her words). Betty was an unconventional, caring and supportive mother (Jo-Anne, husband, Marty) and grandmother (Amber & Lucas), loving wife (Edmond), sister (June, husband, Jim) and aunt (Peter, Jenny, Rosemary, David & Laurie, Patsy and families), and a loyal friend. So please raise your glass for a toast to an incredible individual, who is gone but never forgotten. As per Betty’s wishes there will be no services. Donations in her name can be directed to the Seniors Association Kingston Region, 56 Francis St. Kingston.
