Obituary of William Cameron Porter
PORTER, William Cameron
July 2, 1933-July 3, 2018
It is with deep regret that we announce the passing of William (Bill) Cameron Porter, peacefully, at Providence Care Hospital in Kingston as a result of congestive heart failure. Bill is survived by his devoted wife Shirley (nee Putnam). He will be remembered as a fun loving uncle to many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents William and Adelaide Porter (late of Toronto) and his sister Nora (late of Mississauga). Bill grew up in Toronto, went to university in Indiana, returned to Toronto for his teacher training and moved to Kingston to start teaching geography at QECVI. He spent the majority of his career at LCVI where he was the Head of the Geography Department until his retirement in 1989. Bill was an avid golfer at Cataraqui Golf Club. He enjoyed travelling, especially to warm destinations, and reading. Bill's pet dogs brought great joy to his life over the years. Many thanks to the caring and compassionate staff on Davies 3 at KGH and Providence Care Palliative Care Unit. In accordance with Bill's wishes, cremation has taken place at James Reid Crematorium. A memorial service in celebration of Bill's life will be held at JAMES REID FUNERAL HOME, 1900 John Counter Boulevard on Monday, July 9 at 11:00, with Bill's brother-in-law Reverend David Mundy officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10:00 am until 10:50 am, and during a reception in the James Reid Reception Centre following the private graveside service at Cataraqui Cemetery. As an expression of sympathy, donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Kingston Humane Society, or the Craig Revell Junior Scholarship Fund (cheque payable to Cataraqui Golf and Country Club; mention the scholarship fund in the Memo portion. Please note: no charitable tax receipts will be issued).
