Obituary of Steven V. Rose
Steven Vincent Rose
July 2, 1957- June 29, 2018
It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Steven V. Rose on June 29th, from cancer. Steve will be sorely missed by his family, friends and colleagues. He will be remembered for his leadership, work ethic, service to his profession, mentoring, good humour, wisdom and love of his family and friends. Steve gained a passion for travel growing up and living in various countries abroad as his dad’s work had his family moving every 1-2 years. He graduated from Queen’s University with a degree in geological engineering in ‘81 and followed that up with a master’s in civil engineering from USC. He started his career in California where he met his wife Margit through a Sierra Club mountaineering course. Steve enjoyed various hobbies including backpacking, rock climbing, stamp collecting, riding his motorcycle, beer tasting, listening to live music, helping out on various professional committees, and mentoring students at Queen’s. In 1989 Steve and his business partner founded their own company in Kingston, Malroz Engineering. In 2010 he was awarded the PEO Order of Honour and in 2018 the OSPE President’s Award for volunteering. He was immensely proud of his 3 children, Hayley, Becky and Nick. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his name to the U.H.K.F. (Kingston Cancer Centre) or to the Al Gorman fund at Queen’s University. A celebration of his life will take place at a later date.
