AXFORD, Ronald Stuart
It is with gratefulness and sorrow that we announce the death of Ronald Axford at K.G.H. on May 16, 2018. He is survived by his wife, Louise, one daughter, Valerie Leonard, son-in-law, Dr. Michael Leonard both of Ottawa, three grandchildren Craig Axford, Rochester N.Y., Brian Axford of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Shannon Paluc of Parry Sound, ON, and two great-grandchildren, Nathan and Ada who live in Ann Arbor. One son, Dr. Paul Axford and granddaughter Julia are deceased.
Ron was born in 1929 in St. Thomas to Isabella and Fred Axford. He received his early education in Elgin County, followed by graduation from Western University in London, University of Toronto with a Master of Education degree in 1960 and London Teachers College. He taught in Elgin County, Middlesex County, Windsor, Peterborough Teachers College and the Faculty of Education, Queen’s University. He was a faithful member of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church where he was an elder for 40 years. In his retirement, he volunteered at three retirement homes playing the piano for hymn sings and sing-a-longs, as well as leading Bible studies and church services. He was fond of nature. He and his family spent many happy summers hiking the beautiful Rocky Mountains. His family are appreciative of the compassionate care he received at K.G.H. during his final days. A service for Ronald will be held on Monday, May 28 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of the James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Blvd. For those who wish donations may be made to St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Ron’s memory
