Coady, Colonel Retired G.L. (Gerry)

Passed away peacefully at Kingston Health Sciences Centre – KGH on Tuesday, April 24, 2018 surrounded by family. Husband to loving wife Trish (Murnaghan) of 55 years. Father to Patrick (Silvana), Shawn (Diane), Michael (Tracy), Siobhan. Grandfather to Torin, Shannon, and Conor. Brother of Frank (dec. Marilyn), Phyllis MacIntyre (Roly), Fred (Sheila), Father Robert, dec. Anne, David (Elies), Trish Skerry (Pat), Marion Campbell (Philip), Colin (Melody), dec. Monica Fenez (Lou), dec. Pauline, and Marshall (Faye). Uncle to 20 nieces and nephews.

Gerald was born and raised on P.E.I. He graduated from St. Dunstan’s University (UPEI). Commissioned in 1962 with the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals. He had 23 moves in his career taking him and his family to Kingston, Petawawa, London, Germany, England, Ottawa, Vancouver and Washington D.C., retiring back to Kingston in 1996. Highlights in his career, Commander 74 Comm Gp, Commandant CFSCE, BComd CFB Kingston, Director, National Defence College Kingston, Director, Primary Standardization Office ABCA. He continued his connection to the military and opened Coady’s Talent Company – CoTalCo Inc. where he placed retired military personnel into personal and professional service contracts both in military and civilian institutions. He strongly believed in Crown Town and Gown relations. Served on several boards including KGH and The Military Communications and Electronics Museum. He was an avid supporter of numerous local charities most notably through Maritime Fest. Charities that benefitted from this 12 year annual event were KGH (Cardiac Care and Stroke Programs), The Ottawa Heart Institute, The Grand Theatre Restoration Project, C & E Museum and Osteoporosis Canada.

Resting at James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Blvd. Friends will be received on Thursday, May 31, from 6-8 p.m. and Friday June 1, 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Memorial Service will be held at St. Mary’s Cathedral (279 Johnson St.) on Saturday, June 2 at 11:00 a.m. Reception to follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Renaissance Event Venue at 285 Queen Street in Kingston. As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations to The Military Communications and Electronics Museum, the Police and Peace Officers Memorial Ribbon Society or Soldier On would be appreciated.
