BAILEY, J. Clair

Professor Emeritus, Queen’s Faculty of Education

On April 6, 2018, Clair died at Arbour Heights, surrounded by family.  Born in Inkerman, Ontario, February 8, 1932, the son of Frank Clair Bailey and Gertrude Mae Murray. Beloved husband of Audrey, devoted father of Suzanne (Alexis Silverberg), Brian (Tomoko Ujie) and Robert, cherished grandfather of Yukari and Andrew Bailey.  Predeceased by his only brother, Lloyd, in 2017, survived by his dear sister, Norma Stoyles (Frank) and sisters-in-law, Anne Bailey and Jean Millard.  Lovingly remembered by his nieces and nephews, his cousins and the McFadden, Spearey and Wilkinson families.

Educated at Winchester High School, Ottawa Normal School, Queen’s University and Syracuse University, in 1968, Clair was a member of the founding faculty of the newly established McArthur College of Education at Queen’s and in 1973, Queen's coordinator of the Queen’s-Trent Concurrent Education Program.  Throughout his twenty-four years of teaching at Queen’s, he was totally dedicated to his students and always believed in their potential.

A memorial reception will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2018 from 3:00 - 5:00 pm, with remarks beginning at 3:15 pm at the James Reid Funeral Home, Reception and Celebration Centre, 1900 John Counter Blvd., Kingston (please enter the reception from the rear parking lot doors)

Memorial donations may be made to a Queen's University, Faculty of Education Convocation Award in Clair's name (613.533.6000 ext. 78950) or to the Clair Bailey Scholarship in Language and Literacy, at the School of Education, Trent University (705.748.1601) or to a charity of your choice. All donations can be made directly, or through James Reid Funeral Home..

The family acknowledges with gratitude the compassionate and loving care Clair received from the staff at Arbour Heights and the Rosewood Retirement Residence.
