THOMPSON, Elaine
A life-long resident of Kingston, Elaine Thompson passed away suddenly at the Trillium Residential Centre on January 16 at the age of 97, where she had recently moved from Rosewood Retirement Centre. She will be missed by her family: brother Keith Thompson(Marion), brother-in-law, Robert Halfyard(Thelma),and nieces and nephews: Alan Halfyard, Anne Taylor, Heather Halfyard, Craig Thompson, Geoff Thompson, Paul Thompson and Lesley Mneimne and their families. Elaine was predeceased by her parents Elwood and Eleanor Thompson and her sister Elizabeth Halfyard. All of her working life Elaine had been employed as a secretary with the Canadian Military and as a librarian at the Armed Forces Base in Barriefield. On her retirement she received many honours for her dedicated service including one from former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney. She was a devoted supporting member, first of Cooke's United Church and latterly of Cooke's Portsmouth United Church where she was recording secretary for the U.C.W. for almost forty years. She attended services faithfully, including the Sunday prior to her death. She had a keen interest in her extended family, antique dolls, quilts and photography.  A memorial service will be held on Sunday, April 22, 2018 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of the James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Blvd., Kingston.  For those who wish donations may be made to the Cooke's Portsmouth United Church or to the charity of your choice in Elaine's memory.
