Obituary of Timothy Colin Bowman
BOWMAN, Captain Timothy, C.D.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden and tragic passing of our beloved husband, father, son, brother and friend. Tim, loving husband of Lisa. Proud father of Claire and Liam. Cherished son of Susan Barwell (Bernie), and Craig Bowman (Alida), son-in-law of Stuart and Frances Critchley. Grandson of Kenneth Bowman and the late Margaret Bowman, and the late Colin and Gloria Johnston. Dear brother of Devon Bowman (Caitlin) and their daughter Violet, Rachel Whynot (Gord), the late Virginia Bowman, and brother-in-law of Julia Critchley (Adam Masterton) and David Critchley and his son Wolfgang. Tim will always be lovingly remembered by his aunts, uncles, cousins, colleagues and friends.
Tim graduated from the Royal Military College of Canada, Class of 2004, where he obtained his Bachelor of Engineering degree. While at RMC Tim participated in singles rowing. He was also a member of the RMC Sandhurst Team. The team competed each year at the prestigious Sandhurst Military Skills Competition held at the United States Military Academy in West Point, NY.
Tim was a tactical helicopter pilot and a member of 1 Wing Headquarters in Kingston. He completed his Primary Flying Training in 2002 on the Slingsby Firefly in Portage-la-Prairie. While on OJT in Winnipeg Tim obtained his private pilot's licence in 2003. Tim went on to complete the Basic Flying Training on the Harvard II in Moose Jaw 2004-2005. Tim obtained his pilot wings in 2006 on the Jet Ranger helicopter back in Portage-la-Prairie. He was the recipient of the Top Hat Award on his wings course which recognizes both pilot skill and attitude on the course. Tim completed his Griffon helicopter training in 2007. He served a tour in Afghanistan 2009-2010.
Tim was an incredibly accomplished athlete, winning the Canadian Forces Ironman competition in 2006 and 2008, and coming in 3rd place in 2007 with minimal training. Tim had a great love of running and completed the Ottawa Marathon in 2009 among many other races. Tim loved all things outdoors, camping, trail running and anything survival. Tim's true passion was sailing. There was nothing he loved more than being out on the water in his sail boat Clair de Lune, named after a song that had special meaning to him and his family. Tim was a sailing instructor in his teen years at the Royal Hamilton Yacht Club and continued his passion to teach, running the sailing courses at The CFB Kingston Yacht Club.
Tim will be remembered for his amazing smile and cheerful personality. He loved to make people smile and would do anything to get a laugh. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone he could. His work ethic was second to none. Anything Tim put his mind to, he accomplished quickly and with great skill.
Tim loved his children Claire and Liam more than anything and made many wonderful memories, sharing his passion for sailing and the outdoors with them. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. Another bright light gone too soon.
