Obituary of Earl Charles Mayville

Earl Charles Mayville born and raised in Ottawa, March 29, 1917 - April 5, 2017, was 100 years old upon his passing. Earl was employed as a streetcar operator and bus driver in 1940 by The Ottawa Electric Railway, which later became The Ottawa Transit Commission. He served three years in the Air Force and then returned to the OTC. He was elected President of the Union, Division 279 of the ATU. In 1959 he became Chief Instructor and retired 23 years later in 1982. Earl was the first one to allow women as bus drivers and as union President fought for and got a pension plan for OTC employees, which ironically he collected for 35 years. Earl was predeceased by his much loved wife Glorida (nee Pilon), his oldest son Roy, daughter-in-law Sandy, granddaughter Barbara and son-in-law Maynard Collins. His children will dearly miss him: Rita Janes (Ron), Earl (Diane), Dan (Dianne), Ed (Paulette), and Lois Collins (Maynard). We will miss his quick wit, intelligence, sense of humour and so many wonderful stories. His 16 grandchildren have lost their hero: Larry, Barbara, Kathy, Jannet, Carol-lee, Michael, Karen, Leslie, Janet, Chris, Patti, Dannielle, Melissa, Kimberly, Aaron and David. And his 19 great-grandchildren will no longer hear his laughter and many stories.
