Obituary of Nicla A. Sivilotti

SIVILOTTI, Nicla - Peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family, on Tuesday, March 14, 2017. Beloved wife to Olivo, loving mother to Massimo (Ruth), Marco (Marie-Andrée) and Paolo (Linda), nonna to Katherine, Carlo, Alessandra, Lorenzo, Francesca, Sofia and Luca. Born in San Daniele del Friuli, Italy, she was classically educated at Ca' Foscari and la Sapienza. As a new bride, she was persuaded to accompany her husband for a short stay in Canada, endured a few winters in Arvida, then moved to Kingston in 1962. Her greatest vocation was raising her three sons, to whom she transmitted a love for knowledge and learning and demonstrated the strength of family. Never far from her beloved patria, she worked tirelessly to promote and support the Italian community in Kingston in many ways, initiating the local chapter of the Dante Alighieri Society, teaching Italian language classes, and organizing the Mani d'Oro dedicated to preserving traditional skills and cultural identity; dott.ssa Sivilotti was honoured to serve as Vice Consul of Italy in Kingston, and as assistant to Senator Peter Bosa in Ottawa. The family wishes to thank Dr. J. Matthews and Tracey Froess, Dr. N. Kondor and Kim MacEachern, and the Palliative Care Unit at St. Mary's of the Lake for their compassionate care. Friends will be received at the JAMES REID FUNERAL HOME, 1900 John Counter Boulevard, on Friday, March 17 between the hours of 6:00 pm and 8:00 pm. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at ST.
