Obituary of Allan Francis Grady

Allan Francis Grady “A gentleman is one who puts more into the world than he takes out.” Our family’s gentleman passed away peacefully from cancer on February 25, 2017at St. Mary’s of the Lake Hospital. We would like to thank his wonderful palliative care teams. He was loved by many during his 83 years including his devoted, loving wife of 58 years, Joanne, his proud daughters Maureen (Mark Roberts) and Monica (Mark Bialik)and his 5 grandchildren; Curtis, Kallie, Colin, Ian and Shona. He is predeceased by his parents Charles and Mary who would have been proud of the kind, generous, respectful son they raised. He truly enjoyed his volunteer time with community service clubs for over 50 years. Dad was the oldest of 8 and predeceased by his brothers Tommy (Mary) and Donald and brother in law Doug Graham. He is survived by siblings Arnold (Dora), Elaine (Joe Walsh), Claire (John Sosnowski), Leonard, and Janet Graham and numerous nieces and nephews. Dad grew up on a dairy farm near Crysler, ON and loved sharing his memories including getting electricity for the first time and his insistence that he really did have to walk to school in hip high snow (both ways). After school he started work at RBC and stayed with them until retirement 38 years later. In 1956 he met and started secretly dating a coworker. She was a smart, young beautiful teller – our mom. They loved to travel and family trips were always memorable. Dad discovered how to pair his passion for story telling and genealogy and wrote 3 booklets, including 2 family trees and our personal favourite, his autobiography. Our heads know he lived a great life, but our hearts miss him terribly. The family will receive friends at the James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Blvd., on Friday, March 3, 2017 from 11:00 am - 12:45 pm, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 490 Days Road. Rite of Committal will be held at Our Lady of the Rosary Parish Cemetery, Crysler, ON in the spring. For those who wish, donations in Allan’s memory may be made to the U.H.K.F. (Cancer Centre of SE ON at KGH) or to the charity of your choice.
