Obituary of Laura Gertrude Fern Simkins

SIMKINS, Laura Gertrude Fern December 25, 1919-February13, 2017 Laura (nee Alkenbrack), beloved wife of the late Vernon Simkins (Dec. 1979) passed away peacefully in her sleep at Providence Manor. She was predeceased by her parents, Perry and Viola (nee McDonald) Alkenbrack and by her only brother Donald. Beloved mother of La Vern and Eric (Laurie) Simkins and grandmother of Vernon Simkins. Fondly remembered by several cousins, nieces and nephews. Laura was an elementary school teacher with the Frontenac County Board of Education for 31 years. The family extends sincere gratitude to Laura's caregivers at Providence Manor for their kindness and compassion. Friends will be received at the JAMES REID FUNERAL HOME, 1900 John Counter Boulevard on Thursday, February 16 between the hours of 7:00 and 9:00 pm., and on Friday, February 17 from 10:00 am until 10:50 am. The funeral service will follow in the Chapel at 11:00 am, with Reverend Barbara Mahood officiating. Interment Newburgh Cemetery.
