Obituary of Judith Patterson

Dr. Judith Patterson - Passed away peacefully at home on Friday January 27, 2017, surrounded by friends and with her beloved German Shepherd, by her side. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Jamie Tiller, her loving parents, Glen and Barbara Patterson, and her dear sister Laurie. Judy leaves a large group of close and loving friends from far and wide who will miss her enthusiasm for life. Judy was an Associate Professor of Geology at Concordia University, in Montreal Quebec, where she taught in the Environmental Geoscience B.Sc. programme. Her formal education was in the geological sciences, with a B.Sc. (Hons.) from Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario, an M.Sc. from the University of Calgary, and a Ph.D. from Virginia Polytechnic Institute in Blacksburg, Virginia, USA. She did her graduate studies in the Baker Lake region of the Northwest Territories, and maintained a love of the far north throughout her life. Her recent area of research was modern environments, in particular the impact of fossil fuel combustion on the atmosphere, and specifically from the transportation sector. Her work has been published in a variety of journals. Judy was an ardent world traveller having visited Japan, Southeast Asia, Iran, the British Isles and in recent years enjoyed trips to the Himalaya Mountains in China, Sikkim and Nepal. An avid curler during the winter months, Judy cherished her free days in the summer at her cottage on Aylen Lake in the Madawaska Valley of Ontario. Many thanks to Dr. Ellen Rosenberg, the nurses and staff of the CLSC and NOVA, The Equinoxe Caregivers, and all the staff at McGill University Health Centre, Cedars Cancer Centre. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, February 4th, 2017 at 1:30 pm at the James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Blvd. Kingston Ontario. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or to the Kingston Humane Society. Arrangements for a celebration of life in Montreal will be announced at a later date.
