Obituary of William "Bill" Danby

Eternally curious and generous physician, researcher, husband and father. He died of cancer in his home in Hopkinton, New Hampshire. He passed being held by Lynne Margesson, MD, his wife and collaborator of 41 years, and his two daughters, Dawn and Claire Danby. Dr. Danby was a celebrated dermatologist who practiced in Manchester for 19 years and in Kingston, Ontario for 24 years. In his offices, he treated his teams as family. He saw their potential, drew out their best work, and steered many towards more ambitious paths. He was chair of the Division of Dermatology at Queen's University, and more recently taught at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College. He led numerous medical organizations in Canada and the United States, conducted 23 clinical trials and gave hundreds of lectures around the world. His colleagues and students celebrated his integrity, constant inquisitiveness and his innovative approaches to understanding illness and treating people. He is survived by his wife and daughters; his granddaughters, Meridian and Jane; his brothers, Mark (Colombia, South America) and John (Newfoundland) Danby; his nieces and nephews and their children. He is predeceased by his sister Lou Danby. A Memorial visitation in celebration of Bill’s accomplished life will be held at the JAMES REID FUNERAL HOME, (1900 John Counter Boulevard at Princess Street, Kingston) on Saturday December 3, 2016 between the hours of 1:00 and 2:45 pm, with the funeral service commencing in the Chapel at 3:00 pm. A reception will follow in the James Reid Reception Centre.
