Obituary of Helen Rosina Dewar

DEWAR, Helen (Ellen) Rosina (nee Habgood) April 13, 1921 - October 2, 2016 Warm and generous mother, grandmother, great grandmother, war bride (the Letitia, July 1946, Pier 21), practical nurse, WWII, Red Cross and Salvation Army volunteer, foster mother, college graduate age 49, first car license at age 60. Lovingly cared for in her final days by her daughter, Shannon Rosalie and Bob Mehrens, cherished by her daughter, Heather Rose Dudley (Bruce), loved by her son, Barry James Dewar (Julie), Cherished by her grandchildren, William (Bill) James Conlin, Laura Guglielmi (Franco), James Christopher Dewar (Ashley), in Germany: Janosch, Karina, Tarje, Mitja, Ralph. Fondly remembered by her cousins Martin and Debs Habgood, (Hayley, Anthony, Charlotte) of Wiltshire, England. Fondly remembered by Pat Dewar (David), Marie McDonald of Scotland, Martyn Homer. Greatly appreciated by students and friends of Viscount Alexander Public School and Queen Mary Public School, Ottawa 1991-2003, Grandparents in the Classroom program. Predeceased by her husband, James and her brother, Robert Habgood and her adopting grandmother, Rose (Happy) Habgood, midwife. In Kingston, a huge thank you to Dr. Connidis and Dr. Kondor, Palliative Care Team; Vicki Johnson, Case Care Coordinator, CCAC; Wendy Balsillie, RN, Paramed, Tammy Thomas, PSW, Paramed, and in her final hours, Wendy Orr, RN, Paramed. Also in Kingston, James Reid Funeral Home for their generous support and in Ottawa, a special thank you to Mr. Michael Chambers, Helen's lawyer of many years. In keeping with Mrs. Dewar's wishes, cremation will be followed by a graveside service at Beechwood Cemetery, in Ottawa.
