On Friday, February 12, 2021, Gabrielle Dorothea Sims, affectionate and loving wife, mother, aunt, friend and accomplished artist passed away at the age of 69 following a valiant struggle with cancer.
Gaby was born on September 28, 1951 in Dusseldorf, Germany to Lilo and the late Carl Kilian. She was in the first graduating class in fine arts at Dawson College and went on to B.A, and B.F.A. degrees at Queen’s University. In 1971 she married Peter Sims and for 49 years was his loving and beloved partner. They raised three children: Danielle (who died suddenly in 2010) and Andrew and Matthew (Tim). She is predeceased by her brother Michael, and lovingly remembered by her dear sister Barbara and brother-in-law Emile, her mother Lilo, her brother-in-law Jeff (Katherine) and sisters-in-law Susan and Lorraine. She was a cherished and much loved aunt and great-aunt to many, and a fine friend to many more.
As an artist Gaby was patient, persistent and direct, in adversity she was tough and defiant, in relationship tender, passionate and nourishing. She had a gift for joy that shone out and touched the lives of many. She was a woman in the fullest and best sense of that beautiful word.
In honouring Gaby's wishes, the family will gather privately for a service in celebration of her life at Sydenham Street United Church with interment in Cataraqui Cemetery at a later date.
