Clyde Lister
December 26, 1930-February 11, 2021
Just one month after his beloved wife Joy died, Clyde passed away peacefully with his daughters Suzy and Andrea by his side. Together for 60 years, as two halves of a whole, Clyde and Joy are together again. Clyde passed just before 5:00pm and we smile thinking that he was joining mom for their ritual 5:00 Scotch.
Born in Toronto, Clyde was the youngest child of four (Hilda, Gaye Bateman, Jeanette Arkell) born to George and Hilda Lister. His father F.G. Lister began a wholesale fruit business after moving from England to Canada. Clyde was introduced to the business - driving trucks to the St. Lawrence Market in the early morning hours and learning the skill of setting prices for the market. Realizing that this wasn't the path for him, Clyde set out first to Huron College (Western University) then to Ryerson University to complete his business degree.
At a friend's wedding he was partnered with a bridesmaid Joy (neé Gilmaster, predeceased January 15, 2021) who would later become his wife. Clyde and Joy moved to Winnipeg soon after they married, then returned to Toronto and finally settled in Brantford. It was here that Clyde embraced his own entrepreneurial spirit and opened a real estate appraisal business called Brant Realty Data.
Clyde had a love of cars which he passed on to his daughter Suzy and grandson Owen. He and Joy loved the open road and they embarked on many camping adventures, travelling from Newfoundland to Whitehorse. Upon retirement, Clyde and Joy moved to Kingston where they enjoyed the friendship of new and old friends.
Clyde was deeply committed to his family. His gentle and steady way will be missed. His legacy will be carried forward by his daughters Suzy (Jackie Pelot, Allison Spiller (2015)) and Andrea (Paul Gibney), and grandson Owen.
The family would like to thank the incredible home care provided by Kathy Howard and her team, Krysten, Bonnie, Kayla, and Natasha, and Bayshore's team of Sherri, Caroline, and Shannon. We would also like to thank Dr Murphy and nurses Kara and Erika in particular for their tender care while in hospital.
Donations may be made to Providence Care Hospital, the Allison E Spiller Endowment Fund (both through University Hospital Kingston Foundation), War Amps, or a charity of your choice. A family gathering will take place at a later date.
