Obituary of Marco Andres Retamal Diaz

RETAMAL DÍAZ, Marco Andrés

(December 5, 1967 - January 31, 2021)

After 53 full years of family life, work, travel and adventure, Marco passed unexpectedly on Sunday. He is deeply loved and missed by his wife Jennifer Ferguson and daughters Isidora and Serena, in whom he took much pride. In Chile, Marco was predeceased by his father, Sergio Retamal Hernandez, and is survived by his loving mother, Erika Díaz Zumelzu, sons Diego and Franco, sisters Loreto and Andrea, brothers Mauricio and Jorge.

Marco was born in Santiago (Providencia), Chile, where he graduated from the Superior Institute of Commerce in Santiago in 1998 and studied English at the British Institute. He worked in sales and accounting before coming to Canada in the fall of 2004, where he has been an important part of our family for 16 years.

Marco had a beautiful heart and soul. He leaves many friends both here and abroad, especially at home, where he enjoyed hosting barbecues; at Queen’s, where he made work fun for those around him; in Montreal, by his compadre and comadres; in Chile, where he was favourite uncle to nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends; and in France, where he is remembered for his passionate cooking and bonhomie. He loved to feed his friends and family and lend a hand. Marco will be remembered for his smile, his love of music, his sense of humour, his interest in fine wine and cuisine, his thoughtfulness, powers of observation and joie de vivre. Un gran amigo por siempre. Adíos hermano; Goodbye Amor; Rest in peace, Papa.

Marco has been cremated and his life will be celebrated on September 18th. Donations may be made to the Canadian Heart and Stroke Foundation.
