Obituary of George Martin
George Martin
1946-2020
George Martin passed away suddenly on December 26. He was 74.
George was the proud father of Angela Barton, Kerri Martin, Kimberly Sutton (Shawn), Jamie Martin (Shannon) and Geordon Martin (Maria). In addition to his children, George is survived by 8 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren as well as his siblings Rose, Gloria, Doug (Debbie) and Brian. He was predeceased by his sister Jay.
Deeply impacted by his experiences as a volunteer firefighter with the Prescott Fire Department (1976- 1988), George cared deeply about fire safety. That is why we suggest donations to the Prescott Fire Association in his memory.
George worked as a Lead Hand at Domtar Packaging in Prescott for many years.
An avid bowler, George belonged to several 5 and 10 pin leagues at the old Cadillac Lanes in Brockville. He also spent many Saturday mornings with his older children at the children’s bowling program.
George introduced his youngest son, Geordon, to card collecting and the two of them could often be found at Eagle Comics in Smiths Falls for Magic the Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh! tournaments.
All movies were another passion of George’s, no matter how bad they were. Many special nights were spent with his children, while they were growing up, eating treats and watching movies.
George also enjoyed nature and spent hours walking. He loved getting out and about. In his later years he often traveled the city on transit, regularly visiting his favourite restaurants. He will be remembered for his kindness, his curiosity and his outgoing nature. The photo included with his obituary was taken on his 73rd birthday wearing a straw hat over his ever-present baseball cap. We thought it was a perfect reflection of his sense of humour.
Due to the pandemic, a service of memorial will be held at a later time.
Donations may be made to Diabetes Canada or Prescott Fire Association.
