Waldemar, Wally, Bubi, Dad.
I owe many things to my father. Here are a few.
I owe him my love of road trips and camping and getting outdoors early on a sunny day.
He made summers fun with BBQ's, swimming pools, baseball and soccer and bike rides. Life is to be enjoyed he would say, so get outside! Winters we skated on a backyard rink that he carefully maintained while standing for hours in the cold, or sledding and street hockey and cheering for the Habs while sitting by the fire.
Keeping busy and making things is what he did best, almost as if by magic. Tree houses and forts assembled from scraps behind the shed and unique handmade toys, the envy of all the boys. He could fix anything and often did for so long that the spare parts were the only things holding it together.
I owe him my love of get togethers and good food. Every holiday meal was a feast with no expenses spared: steaks cooked outside in December at -20C, the best imported bacon and cold cuts, schnapps on the table at 10am! Talk loudly and get on the dance floor first, life isn't for sitting quietly in the corner!
I owe him more than can be written of, spoken of or remembered...Thanks for everything Dad!
