Obituary of Linda Louise Lang

Linda Louise Lang

November 28, 1948 – November 3, 2020

“She lived life with a full heart to bring love, joy, and happiness to others.”

Linda Louise Lang had a simple life ambition: fill others up with love. Her personal fulfilment came not from material gains, but the act of giving time, care and compassion to others, and all the good feelings that bringing people together brought her and everyone else, in return.

Linda lived this way every day of her life until her peaceful passing on November 3, 2020, in Kingston, Ontario after a year-long battle with cancer.

Born in Penticton, BC, and raised in the south-eastern Saskatchewan town of Indian Head, Linda dedicated her life’s work to education. First as a teacher in Saskatoon, and later as a university professor; an academic path that took her through the University of Saskatchewan, University of Alberta, and finally, the University of Regina, where she retired as a tenured professor in 2011.

Drama was closest to Linda’s heart. She was an accomplished drama education PhD and a theatre actress, performing with Persephone Theatre and Gateway Players in Saskatoon, among others.  Linda also founded the Canadian theatre publication ’Mask n’ Melody’, in response to a lack of Canadian content for school theatre productions.

Spending time with loved ones was what Linda cherished most. Whether it was bringing family together at the Lang cabin at Katepwa Lake, or later in life at Lake of Bays, Muskoka and Longbow Lake, near Kenora, Ontario. She enjoyed Christmas baking and tree decorating and creatively celebrating all occasions, including “GramSam Day” on Nov 29 – the day between her birthday and her grand-daughter’s.

Linda is survived by her son & daughter-in-law Patrick & Sandi Scissons together with grandchildren Samantha & Thomas; husband Paul Heppelle and his children Ginette, Réal and Claude & their families, and a loving circle of extended family and close friends spread all across the country, including Kingston, Ontario – her post-retirement home in recent years.

She is pre-deceased by her father James (Jim) Lang, mother Bertha, brother Bill and sister Patricia (Pat Sadar); their complete family now all together again.

In these her own words Linda leaves for us, her wholehearted selflessness something we can all aspire to live by:

I am the light inside the rainbow

I am the healing of your pain.

I am the love that holds you up

Come home to me again.

-Linda L. Lang
