Obituary of Kathleen Kimber (née Reidy)
Kathleen Kimber (née Reidy)
Peacefully, at Providence Manor, Kingston, surrounded by the love of her family, Kathleen passed away on November 6, 2020 at the age of 85.
Dearly cherished wife of Desmond, the love of her life, for 62 years. Beloved mother of Shane (Josephine), Anne Jones (Gord), Deirdre Pelow (John), and Maeve McLatchie (Bill). Much loved grandmother of Siobhan, Maeve (Jason), Alanna, Ian and Connell.
Dear sister of Thérèse Evans (North Bay, ON), and Philip Ó Riada (Ireland). Predeceased by her parents Philip and Agnes Reidy, and her brother Patrick Reidy.
Kathleen was born in Ennis, Co. Clare, Ireland. After earning her R.N. diploma from the Mater Hospital in Dublin, she immigrated to Canada in 1958, and began a new life with Desmond. Her life's vocation centred around family. With Des by her side, she raised four children and became an influential and nurturing presence in the lives of her grandchildren. She also instilled in both her children and grandchildren a great love of and connection to their Irish heritage.
Our own "Celtic Tiger", Kathleen's feisty spirit sustained her through many health challenges, including her final battle with Alzheimer's disease. Many thanks to those who cared for Kathleen, including the wonderful personal support workers from Saint Elizabeth Health Care, Leslie Rimmer, Dr. Kristy Cooke, Marie Doucet, and Dr. Andrew. A special thank you to Jenna Remmler and Kim Milks, whose gentle, patient and expert care allowed Kathleen to stay in her home for as long as possible.
Kathleen lived her final months in Providence Manor where she was treated with love and compassion by the attentive and supportive staff of Montreal 3. Their outstanding care allowed her to die with peace and dignity.
In the words of her beloved Des, Kathleen was "lovely and pleasant in her ways." She was dearly loved by her family who will miss her tremendously.
A private family funeral took place on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at Our Lady of Lourdes Parish, followed by interment in Glenhaven Memorial Gardens.
