Obituary of Donald Johnstone

Donald Johnstone

1942-2023

(40 year employee of DuPont Canada)

With deep sadness we share the death of Donald (Don) Johnstone. Don passed away peacefully at home, with family by his side, on July 5th, 2023 after courageously coping with a lung cancer diagnosis and its many treatments and challenges.

Don was loved and will be missed by many including Linda, his loving wife of 58 years (nee Kimmett), his daughter Heather (Kathleen) and his son Brian. Don will also be missed by his twin brother John (Sharon), their families as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Don was predeceased by his parents Annie (nee Donald) and John Johnstone and his two older siblings Joan and David.

Over the years Don enjoyed photography, music (the louder the better), and “camping” with good friends on the Bay of Quinte. He was a deeply loyal Red Wings fan but would, begrudgingly, watch a Maple Leafs’ game. Once they started to travel more, Don grew very fond of the adventures and he and Linda made many great memories cruising the seas and flying to various destinations in addition to their winter months away in Myrtle Beach. He loved walking ocean beaches, with his earbuds in, looking for sharks’ teeth (his collection is a testament to his skill).

A Celebration of Don’s life will be held Wednesday 12-July-2023 at James Reid Funeral Home from 2-4 pm. (1900 John Counter Blvd. Kingston ON K7M7H3). Friends and family are welcome to drop in, say hello and share a favourite memory or story. (Please enter from the back entrance.)

The family prefers you honour Don in a way that fills your heart. No flowers or donations are expected but if you prefer, please consider a donation in lieu of flowers to any charity special to you. A few examples that have special meaning to Don and his family are Kingston Health Science Center, Lennox and Addington County General Hospital, any private hospice or your local Humane Society.

The family would like to extend a huge thank you to the Doctors, nurses, PSWs, technicians and support staff that have shown nothing but kindness and support to Don and his family on this difficult path.
