My condolences to the family. I met “Mrs. Gibbon” (Susan) when I was six years old. I began piano lessons with her as I started second grade. I loved it! She was a part of my life for the past 37 years, lessons, recitals, festivals, exams, new music, she became like family. Piano was an important outlet for me, if I was happy I played Mozart, mad then it was Chopin, sad meant Beethoven. Susan was there as I moved through my childhood, into my teen years. She was there as I studied at Queens. She was there when I started teaching piano, graduated, got married, became a mom myself. She was there to teach my three sons once they were ready for private lessons. I am so grateful for the gift of music that she gave me and my children, as well as her friendship. Her Chopin statue sits atop my piano, her beautiful wooden piano footsteps that Larry made rest under my daughter’s feet, and the collection of sheet music that she gifted me will play on for years to come. She was an amazing woman who has greatly influenced my life. She will be deeply missed and my heart is heavy with sadness.
