Obituary of Elinor Jean Payne

Elinor Jean Payne

1930 - 2023

A broken heart has been mended together with Love on May 24th, 2023. Elinor Jean Payne Double “O” has been reunited with her husband Keith the “ Hammer” Payne with God by their side. Elinor was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. A true North ender she cherished her homestead on James St and looked forward to summer getaways at Payne’s Paradise Love Shack on Howe Island.

Elinor Payne (Conley) was born August 19th, 1930 in the Skeleton Park neighbourhood. She was swept off her feet by the man of her dreams the late Keith Joseph Payne and recently celebrated 73 years together. Daughter of the late Gretta Moon and Sam Conley, Elinor was lovingly raised by grandparents Lena and Will Moon with Mona by her side.

Predeceased by siblings the late Verna Merrick (Charlie), Jack Conley (Marjory), Nadine Smithe (Pat) and Ted Conley (Eileen). Loved Mother of son Christopher Payne and daughter-in-law Bridget (Walker) Payne and her much loved grandchildren Carson and Calista Payne.

Elinor Double “0” licenced to chill and drill questions to anyone who passed through their door, was also the Queen of neighbourhood watch. Proud owner, bookkeeper, chief cook and bottle washer of Payne’s Building Service; Double “O” did it all !

Mrs. Clean knew the value of strong work ethic and always ran a tight ship but knew when to call it a day. Snug as a bug in her easy chair, with her favourite Bacardi beverage in hand, fulfilling the daily ritual of Y and the R …. Oh Life is so grand !

Elinor will be sadly missed but we are comforted knowing her faith, love of family and the reconnection with Keith her silver haired fox has brought her home to her final resting place St. John the Apostle Church where she attended mass, exchanged wedding vows, baptised her grandchildren, celebrated her Platinum anniversary, was a member of the Catholic Women’s league and was the best Christmas ribbon steamer the Church has ever had. Visitation for Elinor will be celebrated with family and friends at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church, 88 Patrick St., Monday June 5th, 2023 at 10:00 am followed by mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am, Rite of Committal with Prayers at St. Mary's Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy donations can be made to St. John the Apostle Church or to UHKF Cancer Kingston. Our sincere thanks and appreciation for their compassionate care at KGH and the North End Clinic and caregivers who shared with Elinor s care.

In our hearts you will always be, now joined together forever free.

Rest in Peace Elinor Payne with your soul mate by your side.
