Obituary of Dr. John Eric Anderson
John Eric Anderson MD, CCFP, Professor Emeritus
John died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on May 7th at Kingston General Hospital in his 87th year. The only Son of the late Archdeacon Allan James Anderson and Isobel Iona (nee Lyons) Anderson; much loved Husband of Eleanor Elizabeth (nee Kidd) Anderson; cherished Father of Bruce and his partner Louise, Jim and his wife Penny, Beth and her partner Kevin; proud Grandfather of Benjamin, Owen, Daniel and Cameron; Brother-in-law to the late Richard Kidd and his wife Maryellyn, Uncle John to their children Richard and Leslie; Cousin of Dick Richmond (and wife Carol) and Ken Richmond (and late wife Marg). He was a compassionate Family Physician to many, and a dedicated Teacher and accomplished Researcher to many more at Queen’s University School of Medicine.
John graduated from Queen’s School of Medicine in 1961. After interning at Montreal General Hospital, he began his practice in Picton, Ontario in 1963. He moved back to Kingston in 1971 to join as one of the founding members of the Family Practice Unit, which later became the Department of Family Medicine at Queen’s University. He continued to work in the Department of Family Medicine until his retirement in 1998. Always a lover of the outdoors, in retirement John cherished his time with family at their cottage at Desert Lake, Ontario.
A service will be held in his honour at 11:00 am, Monday, May 15th at St. John’s Anglican Church, Portsmouth Village, Kingston. All funeral arrangements are under the care of James Reid Funeral Home. For live streaming of the service see their link below.
