Obituary of Dr. Robert Thomson

Dr. Robert James Thomson, or ‘Dr Bob’, as he was known; passed away peacefully at Providence Care Hospital in Kingston, on April 29th. Bob was born on 30 June, 1948, in Kingston, to Bill and Maxine Thomson.

 

Bob is survived by his wife of 48 years, Linda-Dawn, children Shanna Dawn Zebarth (Kris Zebarth), Marcus James Thomson (Liyam Eloul), his grandchildren Oscar and Finnian, as well as sister Mary Gail Wright (Al Wright), and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Bill and Maxine Thomson, and sisters Ann (Newton) and Janet (Lloyd).

 

He was first a Family Physician in Oshawa who then moved to Kingston in 1975, where he practiced family medicine for 25 years. Bob had a second career in the Ontario Ministry of Health from 2001 to 2020. Bob served his community as Coroner for several years and with great pride volunteering for over a decade with Scouts Canada. He founded the Kingston Orienteering Club and was involved in the Kingston Power Squad. He was an avid boater, cyclist, engine enthusiast, and family man. Bob will always be remembered for his love of boating throughout the Thousand Islands, traveling to sunny climates, and the roar of V8 engines.

 

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, May 7th 2023, from 2-4pm, at the Cataraqui Golf and Country Club. Friends and family are invited to attend and celebrate Bob's life. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved him. Profound thanks to Dr Leah Nemiroff and her team at Providence Care Hospital for their compassionate care. Memorial donations are welcomed by the family to a charity of your choice.
