Obituary of Ruth Isobel Publicover

It is with great joy and profound sadness that we share news of our Mom’s passing on April 21st , 2023. After the celebration of her 99th birthday on April 8th, her health declined rapidly. Mom died at home in the care of her family, with the help of the palliative team, as was her wish. She lived her life according to her faith, and now joins those beloved who have gone before her.

Ruth is predeceased by her brother Raymond (WWII, 1943), her mother Mabel (1987), father Fred (1985) and sister Geraldine (2008) and by her husband, best friend and partner, Al (1981). During her 42 years of widowhood, her family grew. Grieving their mother are Mark and Carolyn, Stephen and Marlene, and Susan. Missing their gramma are Megan (Adam), Kristin (Craig), Ellen (Kevin), Erin, Leah (Ben), Deacon (Xu), and Jocelyn (Phil), and her 7 great grandchildren, Wesley, Freddie, Riker, Ziggy, Theo, Max and Clark. And she is much loved by family, friends and faith communities in Toronto, Sudbury, Ottawa, Nova Scotia, Manitoba, Alberta and Kingston.

Ruth really was the “compassionate one” and took joy from helping others; including serving as a palliative care volunteer for 15 years in Kingston hospitals.

Visitation will be on Sunday, April 30th, from 2-4 pm at the James Reid Funeral Home on Counter Street in Kingston, and the funeral service will be held at St. James Anglican Church, Barrie at Union Street, at 11 am on Monday, May 1st. The service will be live streamed publicly and posted to include family and friends across Canada and in Scotland. Go to: https://www.youtube.com/@st.jamesanglicanchurchkingston

In lieu of flowers, gifts to St. James Anglican Church, Kingston, Partners in Mission Food Bank, or a charity of significance to you would be appreciated by the family.
