Obituary of Eric Gantry Moore

Eric Gantry Moore, 83, passed away peacefully in his sleep, following a bout of pneumonia, on March 10, 2023. He joins his beloved wife, Barbara Grace Moore. One could highlight his many accomplishments in life from overcoming significant health issues at birth in Dartford, Kent, England, to which his twin brother succumbed, to his numerous sporting accolades, some preserved in the Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack and the yearbooks of Eltham College, to his academic prowess that took him from Cambridge University (Cambridge, England), to the University of Queensland (Brisbane, Australia) to Northwestern University (Evanston, Illinois) and finally to Queen’s University from where he travelled globally for conferences and speaking engagements . His colleagues would remember him for his contributions to public policy, demography and health data and statistics, as a professor and later Dean of Queen’s School of Graduate Studies. As a family though, we honour his legacy by sharing his love for sports, cooking, multiculturism, music (particularly jazz), travelling, photography and the company of dogs. He held a special place in his heart for his partner, Ursula, who we are thankful came into his life and brought him so much joy. As an advisor, intellectual and confidante, with extreme wit but an inability to carry a tune or draw, well, anything, he enthusiastically and lovingly helped shape and influence the lives of his daughters, Kathy (Gary), Sarah (Roy) and Alison (Dan) and his grandchildren; Tyler, Cole, Jarryd, Megan, Emma, Rachel, Kenzie, Jessica and Erica. We all miss and love you.

a flower rising up, to touch the sky

the brightest star in the dark is flying by

a whisper from the wind, in a hollow cove

the most special one

it's too bad that nobody knows

how much, how many people miss your shining smile

the twinkle in your eye

how will we get by?

this only you know

the only story not told

is how much we’re missing you tonight - RK
