Joan Shorrock
September 13, 1924 - March 6, 2023
Peacefully, surrounded by family, in her 99th year, Joan Shorrock (née Platt) passed away on Monday, March 6, 2023. Joan was born in Gargrave, England and immigrated to Canada with her husband Bryn in 1951 where they both worked hard to build their future here.
Joan was a loving mother to Glenn (Leanne), Wayne (Elaine Woodland) and daughter-in-law Sherry (late Ian). Adored by her grandchildren Clayton Shorrock, Janessa Shorrock, Laura Wilcock (Chris), Chelsie Shorrock (Mike Robbins) and Melissa Shorrock (Zack Price) and great-grandchildren Macie and Abbygail Shorrock; Grayce, Rhett, and Emmerson Wilcock; Owen and Aiden Price.
Joan is predeceased by her husband, Bryn (1992); son, Ian (1995); great-granddaughter Davy (2015); and grandson Kyle (2017).
“Auntie Joan” leaves behind many nieces, nephews and extended family in England. She will be greatly missed by her dear friends Barbara, John, Tracey and David Rushton.
“The Queen” was passionate about tea-time, cricket, curling, shuffleboard, travel, camping, euchre and the Toronto Blue Jays, among many other things. She did not enjoy being disturbed during Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy and especially The Lawrence Welk Show.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all of the Nurses, PSWs and staff at Rideaucrest Home for their care and compassion in Joan’s final years.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Collins Bay Legion #631, 4034 Bath Road on Saturday, April 15, 2023 from 1:00 - 4:00 pm. For those who wish, donations in her name may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
