Obituary of William "Dave" Fisher

William David Fisher It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Dave Fisher on February 26, 2023 at the age of 70 following an eleven month battle against cancer. Loving Father of Kerri, Brent (Lindsey) and Ryan (Danielle) and adoring Grampy to Amelia and Elouise. Dave is survived by his parents, Lorne and Thelma Fisher, his sister Eleanor Van Niedek and his nephew Jesse Van Niedek (Sarah). Born on November 25, 1952 in Kingston, Ontario, Dave joined the Correctional Service of Canada in 1974 and proudly retired in 2009 with over 35 years of public service. Dave was also an actor extraordinaire and embraced his creative side during retirement as a role player at CFSMI and as a standardized patient at Queen’s University. Dave had a passion for sports and enjoyed playing baseball, fastball, hockey, golf and horseshoes. In his younger days, he played competitive baseball with the Kingston Ponies as well as fastball in the Circle City and Loughborough leagues throughout the 1970’s and 1980’s. Dave was also active in the Sunbury Horseshoe Club and was a Division I winner in the Canadian Horseshoe Championships in 2011. A supportive and caring father, Dave’s playful spirit shined even brighter when in the presence of his grandchildren. Those who knew Dave knew his love of family, the great outdoors and his passion for finding a good bargain. An avid fisherman, “Minnow” loved casting a line and could always be counted on to tell a good fish tale! His keen wit and flair for dramatic storytelling will be deeply missed. Dave was a loyal and trusted friend to many. He enjoyed sitting lakeside and taking pictures of his resident deer, birds and chipmunks. Dave loved playing cards and will be fondly remembered as the “King of the Bush Sitters” by everyone who ever played euchre with him. He may also be the only gambler to “break even” every time he went to Vegas! A special thank you to all of the friends who supported Dave in his fight, as well as the Oncology and Palliative Care teams at the Kingston General Hospital and the many individuals from South East Home and Community Care Support Services and CBI Health for their kind and compassionate care. Our deepest thanks and gratitude to Jenny Walters, who lovingly took on the role of caregiver and companion so that Dave could pass peacefully at home on Buck Lake. In keeping with Dave’s wishes, cremation will take place. Arrangements have been entrusted to James Reid Funeral Home and a Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday March 5, 2023, from 1pm to 3pm.
