Peacefully, at home as per his wishes on Friday, February 24^th, 2023. He lived for eight years more than his beloved wife, Margaret Fern, with whom he shared 55 years of marriage. Loving father to his three children, May Fern of Toronto, Nan Fern of Kingston, Ken Fern and his wife Kathleen of Hampton and his three grandchildren, Grace, Lexi and Bennett. Dear brother to his three sisters. Dear brother-in-law of Paul Mah of New York City. Dan will be missed by his family and friends in Canada, China and around the world. Dan lived a full life overcoming numerous obstacles to start a new life in Canada from China, at the age of 13. He ultimately completed his studies at McGill University before a long rewarding career as a researcher for Alcan Aluminum. He was a caring and loving man whose priority was always his family.

Dan’s family will receive friends at the James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Blvd., Kingston, on Saturday, March 4, 2023, from 1:00 - 1:50 pm, followed by a service Celebrating his Life at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow the ceremony at the Cataraqui Cemetery. For those who would like to donate in his honour, they can be made to the United Church of Canada.
