Obituary of Charles Convery
Charles R. Convery
Lives are like rivers; eventually they go where they must, not where you want them to. It is with the sudden passing in his home, at age 78, of our beloved Charles Ralph Convery on January 30, 2023 that this holds true. We, his loving family, extended family, dear friends, and surrounding community are left with both a great sadness and some of the most wonderful memories. Charlie, Chuck, Chuckles, Chaz, Poppy, and Dad, you were the best!
Charlie will always be lovingly remembered by his wife Maria J. Convery. He was a big hearted, generous, and dedicated father to his children Brent Convery, Brandon Convery (Laura), and stepchildren Stacey Djakovic, and Matthew Lloyd. Born on December 11, 1944, he spent his youth in Battersea, a caring brother to Sharon Lake (Harold), predeceased by his brother Gary Convery, and parents Margaret and Ralph Convery. He later became a happy and proud uncle to Ryan, Cara, Tracy, and Mike, and undisputably the best Poppy ever to Jaden, Sarah, Duke, Marlowe, Bo and Marlon.
His door, as was his heart, was always open to everyone, including extended family, Patricia Convery, the Galt Family, Jennifer Henderson, Dean Djakovic, the LaVallee family, his wife’s entire family, Diane Dey(Scott), Jackie Arnott (David), Willie and Margo, all his dear and wonderful friends, and every one of the many friends his children were always bringing home, all were welcome. Charlie spent his life content in his devotion to all these people and many more who lovingly surrounded him. There will be enough fond stories of his shenanigans to go around for generations to come.
Charlie was a technician at Dupont Canada in their research department. He had many hobbies; fishing, grilling on the BBQ for friends and family, and in his younger wild years he played local baseball, his competitive spirit winning a couple MVP awards. He avidly played golf in his later years, taking vacations south to play in the sunshine and delight in dinner and drinks with Maria and friends, listening to Willie Nelson poolside. He loved driving and a good deal on a car, he loved nature and walks in the woods, he loved good food and never skipped on dessert, he loved country music and he loved to razz you , even more so if he liked you, but his one true passion was hockey and he devoted his whole life to the great sport.
Charlie was recognized in 1986 by the International Hockey Hall of Fame, and in 2010 inducted in to the Kingston and District Sports Hall of Fame, but he would have showed up to play even if he never received an award his whole life. He’d show up hours early and gave it his all out of pure passion for hockey itself. In fact , to anyone who knew Charlie his name was synonymous with hockey.
You were loved and will be greatly missed by many Charlie, may you rest in peace. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place through James Reid Funeral Home, and a celebration of life will take place in the summer.
