Obituary of Doreen Eva Benton
Doreen Eva Benton (nee Kendall)
“Eternal love is a love far more powerful than the connection of two bodies or minds. It is a love which connects two souls.”
Twenty-four days after her beloved husband of 62 years, Bill, died, Doreen got her wish and passed away quietly at home, surrounded by love, on Saturday, January 28, 2023. Our broken hearts find peace in knowing they are together once again.
Doreen Benton (Kendall), age 81, was the youngest of 15 children, born to Bertha Daniels and Anick Kendall on January 23, 1942. She is survived by her two brothers Edward and Earl (Jeannine) and predeceased by Robert (Beverly), Raymond (Carmen), Denis (Cécile), Kenneth (Noëlla), Freda (Bud Paterson), Louise (Irenée Pellerin), Theresa (Gerard Frappier), Leonard (Corona), Edna (Jack Hadley), Henry (Bernadette), Donald, and Ellen (Bill Ride). Doreen was cherished by her children Donna (Mario Cantin) of Trois Rivieres, William Robert Jr. of Sherbrooke and Allan (Kathy Kolody) of Kingston. Doreen was the very proud “Momma” to her granddaughters Stephanie, Danielle, and Lauren, who loved her so much. Doreen will be dearly missed by her sisters-in-law Beverley DeCorso (Ted) and Martina Benton (David). She leaves behind many nieces, nephews, friends, and neighbours.
Doreen dedicated her career, working alongside Bill, in the textile industry at Three Rivers Knit Printers. In 2003, they both retired to Kingston to be closer to their granddaughters. Doreen was a beautiful seamstress and could knit and crochet just about anything. But nothing will ever compare to the magical touch she had in the garden. She will always be remembered for the beautiful tomatoes that she grew each and every summer.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to her dedicated family physician, Dr. Marian Luka who was always so attentive, her Respirology team Dr. Chris Parker, Dr. Christine D’Arsigny, and Elizabeth Hill. Heartfelt thanks to Matt, Nancy, and the entire staff at Kingston Oxygen Home Healthcare and to her Personal Support Workers who visited her each morning and made a difference in her life.
Visitation will take place at James Reid Funeral Home, 1900 John Counter Blvd, on Monday, February 6, 2023, from 11:00 am -1:00pm, followed by Liturgy of the Word in the Chapel with reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, for those who wish, donations can be made to the Sandy Pines Wildlife Centre.
