Obituary of Keith Gordon Chapman

Keith Gordon Chapman, in hospital January 23, 2023

Born 1929 in Norfolk, England, to Gordon and Elizabeth (Beveridge) Chapman, Keith was trained as an electrical engineer, and also spent two years in the Royal Air Force.

He met and married Mary in England, and in 1957 they moved to Canada where Keith worked in engineering and executive roles in Montreal, Thunder Bay, and (since 1984) Kingston. Outside of work he and Mary enjoyed many activities together, including art, music, theatre, nature walks and travel, with family and their many friends.

Keith was a fine example of a Renaissance man. He was a singer, actor (stage and TV), photographer, watercolourist, racing cyclist, motorcyclist, sailor, field naturalist, and so much more. To those who knew him it seemed his interests and devotion to them were limitless. Even in his later years he maintained an avid interest in many fields, including aviation, engineering, and birdwatching.

Keith is survived by his wife Mary, children Kevin (late Diana) and Melanie, and grandsons Colin (Kim), Geoffrey and Ian (Lauren). On his 92nd birthday he was delighted to also welcome great-grandson Ash. He was much admired and loved by his family, who will miss him and his sense of humour greatly.

Cremation has taken place, and a private celebration of life is planned for the near future. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to a charity of your choice.

We wish to thank all those wonderful people who assisted Keith and supported the family, both in hospital and at home. We are particularly grateful to Dr Elizabeth Grier, the PSWs from Saint Elizabeth Health Care and ParaMed, staff at the Kingston General Hospital, and the Hildegarde program.
