Obituary of Mornington Jean Hammond

Mornington (Morna) Jean Hammond

July 1933 - December 2022

On Sunday, December 4, 2022, our Mom, Morna Hammond, left this earthly realm and in a moment everything changed as she experienced the everlasting presence of God. Oh what joy! Face to face with Jesus. Reunited with our Dad.

Mom was much loved by her children Ross (Albert), Marg (Roger), Jan (Brian), and special son John. She was proud grandmother to Ryan (Krista) and Erynne (Adam), and great grandmother of Owen, Liam and Eve-lynn. Her strong Christian faith was foundational to her many roles: wife of Gordon; mom; primary school teacher; minister’s wife; friend. Mom enjoyed her years of teaching kindergarten. At an early age she sang harmonies with her family and had a life-long love of music, especially gospel hymns. Born July 13, 1933 to Bertha and Asa Smith of Campbells Bay, QC, she married Gordon Hammond October 5, 1957. Mom loved her family and dad’s family. She is survived by her dear sister Marian (late Ivan), brothers Atholl (late Marilyn) and Brent (Sharon), and close sisters-in-law Ruth (late Lowell) and Cora (late Ray) and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by Gordon’s sisters and spouses Hazel (Eldon), Muriel (Thoburn), Edith (Harry) and Lois (Allen). She will be remembered for her faithfulness and her kindness to those who entered her home - and being a minister’s wife there were many.

Mom was blessed by the attentive and kind-hearted care of staff at Fairmount. We appreciate your smiling faces and grace with which you care for your residents day after day. Thank you.

If you would like to make a donation in Morna’s memory, in lieu of flowers, consider Almost Home, H’art School of Smiles or Polson Park Free Methodist Church.

The Funeral Service will be held in the James Reid Funeral Home Chapel (1900 John Counter Blvd Kingston) on Thursday, December 15, 2022 at 11 a.m. with informal visitation following in the reception centre. For those wishing to view the live stream please CLICK HERE
