NIKAS, Christos
April 23, 1933 – November 25, 2022
Born April 23, 1933 in Thana, Arcadia, Peloponnesos, Greece, Christos (Chris) Nikas peacefully passed away at his home in Kingston, Ontario, surrounded by his loving family, at the age of 89.
He will be forever missed by his beloved wife of 60 years, Murva, his much loved and cherished children, Jim (Shelly) and Tony, and his adored and treasured granddaughter, Christina. The last to survive of five siblings, he was predeceased by his sisters Vasiliki and Demetra (Toula), and brothers Panagioti and Kostadino (Gus). He is survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins both in Canada and Greece.
Chris emigrated from Greece in December of 1951 at the age of 18. In the ensuing years he brought his brother Gus, followed by their sister Toula, to Canada.
In partnership, he and his brother ran several businesses together, while raising their families closely. For over 34 years Chris and Gus operated the College Variety convenience store at the corner of Albert and Earl Streets in the university district, until Chris retired at the age of 70.
His family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to the numerous caring and compassionate people who supported Chris through his last weeks.
In keeping with his family’s wishes, a private family funeral has taken place. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Kingston Humane Society, the Hellenic Orthodox Community of Kingston, or a charity of your choice.
