Obituary of Joyce Irene Elsie Chellew

CHELLEW, Joyce Irene Elsie

February 6, 1925 – May 10, 2020

Strong, spunky, intelligent, independent and determined Joyce, with her amazing sense of humour, a quick wit and a little smile that could light up a room, passed away at the Briargate Retirement Residence in Amherstview, Ontario.

Joyce was born in Bermondsey, England, where she was a member of the Dagenham Girl Pipe Band.  She immigrated to Canada as a War Bride to marry her loving husband, the late William Chellew.  She will be lovingly remembered by her children; Janice Chellew-Stevenson (Bob), Kingston, Judith Forslund (Bob), Thunder Bay, William “Bill”, Edmonton and Karan Bradley (Paul), Uxbridge, as well as her eight adoring grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Joyce lived most of her life in North Bay, where she was the manager of the paint department at Canadian Tire for many years and was known affectionately in North Bay as the “paint lady”.  She volunteered for the Children’s Aid Society in North Bay looking after babies of students who were continuing their education.  She loved to garden and was an active gardener for the North Bay Heritage Gardeners.  She loved to go walking in the out of doors and was an enthusiastic yogi.

Briargate became her loving home once she moved to Kingston seven years ago.  All of the staff there were her second family. Thank you for the outstanding care and compassion that you gave to our mom and her children.  In keeping with Joyce’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service.  To help keep Joyce close to your heart, pass on a smile or a kind deed in her memory.
