Obituary of Isabel Viola Buchan

Isabel Viola Buchan

Mom, we’ll never be able to end our calls, telling you to “KEEP GOING!!!” again.

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Isabel V. Buchan, 88, at Kingston General Hospital ‘KGH’ on Thursday May 7th.

Mom had the warmth and humour of an East Coaster.  She was the loving and devoted wife of Bruce Buchan, Professor Emeritus, now Smith School of Business, Queens University.

Throughout her life, she supported Queens one way or another, and volunteered in Kingston as well.

She was the consummate hostess and culinary expert, winning an award for the best recipe by The Kingston Whig Standard, serving guests such as Diane Francis, and Dr. A. Bader, and many business school faculty and students.

She could make the most boring ‘Scottish Stuffin’ taste like the best turkey stuffing on the planet! And, her cucumber salad will be sorely missed.

Isabel is survived by her husband (who she met in and Kingston at a dance while he was at RMC for summer training); daughter Carol Farquhar (Bruce); her son Rae (Katherine Hartel); grandchildren Jennifer (Sam), Eric, Simon (Polina), and Great Grandchildren  Alexia, Oliver, Emma and brother Worthen (Bev).

To all of you who touched her along the way in her life, we say Thank You! for making a difference for her.

We can’t thank the staff on ‘Kidd 7’ at KGH enough, for their wonderful care and guidance after her stroke.

Celebration of Life call will be led by Kingston Unitarian Minister, Becket Coppola, Kingston Unitarian Fellowship (KUF) on Saturday May 23rd, 2020 in the afternoon at 2:30. Please call Isabel’s family for details, or, contact info@kuf.ca

Cremation in care of James Reid Crematorium.
