Catherine Ann Whiten

March 26, 1953 – October 11, 2022

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our cherished Catherine, surrounded by the love of her family at Trillium Ridge LTC, after suffering from Alzheimer’s.

Catherine will be lovingly remembered by her beloved husband and soulmate Denis Houle. She will be forever missed by her adoring sister Diane Etheridge and her husband Michael as well as her large extended family. Catherine was predeceased by her dear parents Wallace and Ethel Whiten (nee Ryan).

Catherine was a pioneer in her chosen profession of being an Insurance Claims Adjuster, excelling in a male dominated profession where she faced challenges at every turn. She was the first woman in Canada to open and own her own firm.

Catherine loved to travel. She and Denis were fortunate enough to travel to many places that they both dreamed of going all over the world together, creating memories that Denis will forever hold in his heart.

Diane and Denis would like to express a special thank you to AJ at Trillium Ridge LTC, for the wonderful and compassionate care that Catherine received and for the kindness shown to them. They are grateful for and will never forget the dedication of many at Trillium

A Celebration of Catherine’s Life will be held in the chapel of the James Reid Funeral Home (1900 John Counter Blvd., Kingston) on Sunday, October 23, 2022 at 2:00 pm, followed by a reception.  Friends will be received before the ceremony from 1:00 – 1:50 pm.

Catherine was known for her love of animals, especially cats and horses. In her memory please consider making a donation to a local charity that supports the care of animals.
