Obituary of John Matthew Risk
John Matthew Risk (P. Eng.) passed peacefully on August 26, 2022. John loved, and was much loved by his wife, Vera (nee Cumbus); sons, Allan (Daniel), Andrew (Sarah), and Jamie (Chantal); grandsons Peter, William, Angus and Olivier. Also mourning are many relatives in Canada and England. He was predeceased by brothers James Gordon Naismith Risk and Allan Ewing Risk.
Born March 9, 1931 in Kingston to Major Allan and Eleanor (nee Ewing) Risk, he graduated from McGill (Mech. Eng.) in 1957, and enjoyed a distinguished career at DuPont Canada (retired 1996) but not before he received the DuPont of Canada Engineering Pathfinder Award. Sailor, cabinetmaker, photographer, Scottish Country Dance instructor, ballroom dancer, John was also a tireless hockey dad, devoted supporter of his children’s musical endeavours, and homework coach extraordinaire; he was proud of his children and grandchildren and supported all their life choices. He took great pleasure in family gatherings, celebrations, and rituals such as handing out presents from under the tree at Christmas and carving the Sunday roast.
The family is grateful for his care at Connell 3 at KGH, and at Arbour Heights Long Term Care home.
