Obituary of James Donald DeCoste

DECOSTE, JAMES DONALD

 

Peacefully at Extendicare Nursing Home in Kingston, on Monday, August 15, 2022 at the age of 81. Beloved husband of Joan (MacDonald) and loving father of Karen Rhodes & Lori (Dave) Schwehr. Dear grandfather of Bradley & Kristina Rhodes, Selena Petel, Michael (Ali), Cameron (Emma) & Braiden (Phoenix) Schwehr. Great-grandfather of Colton & Amelia) Schwehr. Predeceased by parents Alice Bulanda & Damian DeCoste as well as brothers Paul, Frank, Donald & sister Dolores. Lovingly remembered by sisters Ann, Shirley, Sharon, Darlene, Marilyn, Charlene & brother Billy.

 

Jim was born on August 13, 1941 in Heatherton, Nova Scotia. He worked as a millwright apprentice until he joined the military. Jim served for three years and completed courses in clerk accounting, hygiene assistant & medical assistant. After leaving the army, Jim started work at the Kingston Psychiatric on the nursing staff. He got his RPN Certificate while there and retired after 34 years of service. After his retirement in 1998 his years were spent relaxing and listening to country music on his radio. He also enjoyed spending time with his family.

 

Jim’s family will receive friends at the James Reid Funeral Home on Saturday, August 27, 2022 from 1:00 pm to 1:50 pm. A funeral service will be held in the Chapel at 2:00 pm, with interment to follow at Cataraqui Cemetery.  A reception in the James Reid Celebration Centre will be held after the interment.

 

Donations to the Alzheimer Society or the Canadian Mental Health Association would be appreciated by Jim’s family.
