Obituary of Donald Duncan Lyon

Donald Duncan Lyon: November 14, 1932 – August 8, 2022

It is with heavy hearts the family announce the death of Donald Duncan LYON at the Elliott long-term care home in Guelph in his 90th year.

Don was the youngest of five children of Clarence and Margaret Lyon of Kingston. His siblings are all deceased: Stewart (Ev), John (Helen), Betty, and Lillie (Keith). Don is survived by his loving wife of over 65 years, Dorothy, whom he met in high school. They had four beloved children: Donnie (Leslie), Scott (Sarah), Janice and Mary (Erik), as well as eight amazing grandchildren: Michael, Sarah, Morgan, Brooklyn, Cole, Dorothy, Melanie and Kate.

Don grew up in Kingston enjoying many sports with his friends. At Queen’s University, Don played basketball for the Golden Gaels for four years, including two years as captain, enjoying every minute and talked about it all his life. Don’s chemical engineering degree took the family to Sarnia, Toronto and then Guelph for the last 47 years. Don’s family was his life and he always encouraged their achievements. He was a lifetime member of the United Church and contributed to community life. Don and Dorothy were fortunate to travel the world and Don enjoyed golf in his retirement years. Don was a happy person who never saw the downside and believed in fun and passed that on to those around him.

He will be returning home to Kingston with funeral services to be held at the James Reid Funeral Home at 1900 John Counter Boulevard on Monday, August 15, 2022. Don’s family will receive friends at 1:00 pm, with a service in the Chapel at 2:00 pm. Don will be laid to rest at Cataraqui Cemetery in Kingston. Following the burial, family and friends are invited to the Celebration Centre for a time of refreshment and fellowship. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society or the Salvation Army would be appreciated by Don’s family.

Many thanks to the Elliot Home in Guelph for the excellent care Don received in his final months.
